The United States took a giant step towards securing a place at the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 and the Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2020 as they thrashed Canada in Florida.

The US earned a 10-wicket victory in the opening game of the three-match International Cricket Council Women's Qualifier Americas at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale.

It marked a historic moment for the US women's team, who had never competed in an ICC recognised Twenty20 match before today.

The host nation elected to field after winning the toss and restricted Canada to 66/6 from their 20 overs.

Lisa Ramjit was the star of the show for the US with the ball as she took two wickets for the loss of just five runs.

Chasing 67 to win, the US quickly went about reaching their target and knocked off the required runs inside 10 overs.

Erica Rendler led the way for the American side, posting an unbeaten 47 as the US earned a commanding win.

The two sides will meet again when the tournament continues tomorrow.
