Lorena Wiebes of the Netherlands strengthened her grip on the title at the Tour of Chongming Island in China as she earned her second successive stage victory.

Wiebes, riding for Parkhotel Valkenburg, prevailed in another sprint finish to cross first in the 126.6 kilometres second stage from neighbouring Changxing Island to Chongming Island, finishing at New City Park.

She clocked 3hr 05min 25sec, with second-placed Jutatip Maneephan, of the Thailand Women’s Cycling Team, and Britain’s Lucy Garner, riding for Hitec Products, third in the same time.

Wiebes’s Dutch colleague Nina Kessler was fourth, with Belgium’s Lotte Kopecky seventh, also on the same time.

The final 118.4km stage in this sprinter-friendly International Cycling Union Women’s World Tour race will take place tomorrow.
