Judd Trump claimed his first World Snooker Championship title after cruising to an 18-9 win over John Higgins in Sheffield.

Leading 12-5 overnight, Englishman Trump went on to comfortably seal victory at the Crucible Theatre.

By collecting £500,000 ($655,000/€585,000) in prize money, he becomes the first player in history to amass more than £1 million ($1.3 million/€1.2 million) in one season.

He has also moved up to second in the world rankings.

"It is incredible achievement for me from where I was," Trump told BBC Sport.

"I have worked so hard for this.

"For the people around me, this is so special."

Trump and Scotsman Higgins, a four-time world champion, shared 11 centuries – a record for a professional match.

It was one more than the 10 from the 2016 semi-final between China's Ding Junhui and Scotland's Alan McManus.

Trump's seven centuries equalled the most by a player in a single match, matching Ding's record against McManus from three years earlier.

The 29-year-old also became the first player since Wales' Mark Williams in 2003 to secure the World Championship and Masters double in the same season.

"It was an amazing final," Trump added.

"The standard was so high from the first ball.

"That is probably the best I have played in a major final."
