Hosts Sweden defeated Russia in overtime to clinch their first International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Under-18 World Championship title.

The home crowd of 5,602 at Fjällräven Center in Örnsköldsvik were delighted as Lucas Raymond completed his hat-trick in overtime to secure a 4-3 victory for Sweden.

Raymond and Simon Holmstrom had put Sweden 2-0 up by the 25th minute, before Vasili Podkolzin, Rodion Amirov and Maxim Groshev turned the match on its head and put Russia 3-2 ahead.

Russia's comeback was halted by Raymond equalising ten minutes from time, however, before he scored again in overtime.

The United States took the bronze medal with a comfortable 5-2 victory over Canada.

It is the third time that the US have claimed bronze at the event.

Cole Caufield from the American side was named the competition's most valuable player, having led the scoring with 14 goals.
