Hu had a walkover victory against Jordan’s Bahaedeen Ahmad Alshannik and beat Mongolia’s Batdavaa Munkhbat 21-11, 21-13 at Wuhan Sports Center Gymnasium.

He will face Sugiarto tomorrow.

Among the other players advancing through to the men's singles main draw were Nepal’s Ratnajit Tamang and Malaysia’s Cheam June Wei, from Groups A and B, respectively.

Tamang had a walkover win against Chinese Taipei’s Lu Chia Hung and defeated Laos’ Namboun Luangamath 21-15, 19-21, 21-12.

Cheam, meanwhile, overcame Sri Lanka’s Niluka Karunaratne 21-11, 19-21, 21-18 and Iran’s Amir Jabbari 21-13, 21-14.

Macau’s Pui Pang Fong was the best performer in Group D, beating Brunei’s Jaspar Woon Chai Yu 21-6, 21-10 and Uzbekistan’s Artyom Savatyugin 21-12, 21-8, and is also through to the first round.

In the women's singles, Vietnam's Thi Trang Vu is through to face top seed Chen Yufei of China in the first round.

This was despite suffering a walkover loss to Macau's Ng Weng Chi in her sole Group A match.

Weng, who had a walkover victory against Singapore's Yue Yann Jaslyn Hooi in her other game, is also through and will go up against Hong Kong's Yip Pui Yin.

Her fellow table-toppers were Hong Kong's Yeung Sum Yee in Group B, Sri Lanka's Kavidi Sirimannage in Group C and Hong Kong's Cheung Ying Mei in Group D.

Sirimannage has the difficult task of trying to oust third-seeded Japanese Akane Yamaguchi in round one.
