Jamaican star Briana Williams completed the sprint double as she secured the gold medal in the women's under-20 200 metres event at the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) Games in the Cayman Islands.

Williams, winner of the 100m yesterday, led a Jamaican one-two in 22.89sec - the fastest time in the world this year by an under-20 female athlete.

Joanne Reid took silver, 0.80 seconds slower than her dominant compatriot, while British Virgin Islands’ Beyonce Defreitas earned the bronze medal at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

Victory for Williams, the world’s fastest junior female, saw her add to the 100m and 200m sprint double she claimed at the 2018 International Association of Athletics Federations World Under-20 Championships.

Xavier Naire continued the Jamaican dominance as he topped the podium in the men's under-20 200m, crossing the line in 20.65 as the Caribbean nation enjoyed another one-two.

Christopher Taylor was the recipient of the silver medal and bronze went to Joel Johnson of the Bahamas.

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Ulanda Lewis finished third in 24.09.

In the men's under-17 200m race, British Virgin Islands’ Jaleel Croal overcame the challenge posed by Jamaica as he secured the CARIFTA Games title ahead of Christopher Scott and Richard Nelson, second and third respectively.

Shaquena Foote also starred for the Jamaican team as she clinched her second gold medal of the event, designed to enhance relations between the English-speaking countries of the Caribbean.

Foote, winner of the women's under-20 400m crown yesterday, cruised to victory in the 400m hurdles in 58.05.

Johnelle Thomas added a silver medal for Jamaica in 58.77, while Trinidad and Tobago’s Tamia Badal took bronze.

Jamaica are on course to claim a record-extending 35th straight overall CARIFTA Games title as they sit top of the medals table on 57 medals, including 19 gold, heading into tomorrow's final day of competition.
