The 31-year-old scooped the main award after she won two gold medals at last year's Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang.

Lee also claimed silver in the women's keirin at the 2018 Track World Championships in Apeldoorn.

She has already emerged as the front-runner in the race for the 2019 award after she secured two gold medals at this year's World Championships in Pruszków in Poland.

Lee was one of eight finalists for the Best of the Best prize at the Hong Kong Sports Awards.

The London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist, now a three-time world champion, beat off competition from the likes of 2018 world women's snooker champion Ng On-yee and multiple Paralympic wheelchair fencing gold medallist Yu Chui Yee.

Para table tennis player Ng Mui Wui, gymnast Shek Wai Hung and Asian Games medallists Kong Man Wai Vivian, squash player Au Chun Ming and wushu athlete Mok Uen Ying Juanita were also shortlisted.

"I returned to cycling last year after taking a break and regaining the title means a lot to me,” said Lee, according to the South China Morning Post. 

“All the hard work and effort has paid off. 

"Although I have received many awards, I still treasure every moment as I stand on the stage and hopefully I can keep winning as long as I am still competitive.”

The Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for team only sport was claimed by the rugby sevens squad which won the Asian Games title in Indonesia.

The badminton duo of Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet and track cyclists Cheung King-lok and Leung Chun-wing were also named as winners of the team prize.
