Denmark’s Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus has been seeded first for the men’s singles competition at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Orléans Masters, where action is scheduled to begin tomorrow.
The 33-year-old will start his campaign against either Sweden’s Jacob Nilsson or Czech Republic’s Milan Ludik in the second round of the BWF World Tour Super 100 event at the French city’s Palais des Sports.
Among the other players receiving a first-round bye is second seed Mark Caljouw of The Netherlands.
Caljouw will begin his bid for a third consecutive triumph against either Azerbaijan’s Ade Resky Dwicahyo or Malaysia’s Goh Giap Chin.
In the women’s singles event, Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour is seeded first as she aims to regain the title she won in 2017.
Standing between her and a place in the second round is Canada’s Brittney Tam.
Second seed Saena Kawakami of Japan will face Germany’s Fabienne Deprez in the first round.
Also due to begin tomorrow is the 2019 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, which like the Orléans Masters are due to run through to Sunday (March 24).
Competition will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong.
The 11 teams vying for glory have been split into four groups.
Defending champions Japan and hosts Hong Kong make up Group A, while Chinese Taipei, India and Singapore have been drawn into Group B.
Group C features Indonesia, Thailand and Sri Lanka and Group D pits China, Malaysia and Macau against each other.
Following three days of group stage action, the quarter-finals are set to be held on Friday (March 22).
The semi-finals will then be played out on Saturday (March 23) before the final on Sunday.
