Rwanda’s Uhiriwe Byiza Renus and Eritrea’s Danait Tsegay were today’s winners as the junior road races took place at the African Continental Cycling Championships in Bahir Dar in Ethiopa.

Renus clocked a time of 2 hours 30min 23sec in the 104.4 kilometres men’s event.

He edged out Eritrea’s Yoel Asmerom and Yowhannes Gebrihiwet, who posted the same time to take the silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the 46.4km women’s event, Tsegay triumphed in 1:22:03.

Coming home in the same time, Rwanda’s Diane Ingabire finished second and Yordanos Russom came third. 

Action in Bahir Dar is due to conclude tomorrow.

The elite men’s and women’s and under-23 road races will take centre stage.

This year’s edition of the African Continental Cycling Championships is the 14th in history.
