Defending women's champion Lucie Beere of Guernsey has reached tomorrow's final at the Bowls World Cup in Barrack Heights, Australia, where she will play New Zealand's Jo Edwards.

Beere earned a 10-6, 8-6 semi-final win over Malaysia's Siti Zalina Ahmad, who had earned an automatic last four place as a qualifying group winner along with Edwards.

The 49-year-old New Zealander, twice a world champion and three times a Commonwealth gold medallist, came through a demanding semi-final against home bowler Rebecca Van Asch, 1-10, 12-1, 4-1.

Elsewhere, Gary Kelly has reached tomorrow's men's final of this World Bowls event at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club in the seaside suburb of Shellharbour, New South Wales.

The Irishman, who won all 11 of his qualifying matches in section one, beat Scotland's John Fleming 6-5, 11-5.

He will meet the winner of tomorrow morning's second men's semi-final between Malta's Brendan Aquilina, who has also been unbeaten in this competition so far, and Australia's defending champion Jeremy Henry.

Henry, who was born in and formerly played for Northern Ireland, is seeking a seventh title at what is his home club, having beaten New Zealand's Sean Curtin in yesterday's play-off match.
