Russia and Switzerland shared the under-22 gold medals between them as finals took place today at the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation Ice Climbing World Youth Championships in Oulu in Finland.

The men’s and women’s speed events were won by Russia’s Vadim Malshchukov and Valeriia Bogdan respectively on the 22-metre ice tower.

Malshchukov beat the United States’ Liam Foster in the battle for first place, clocking a time of 24.88sec to his rival’s 31.67.

Compatriot Anton Sukharev rounded out the podium after defeating fellow Russian Fedor Prazdnikov in the third-place playoff.

Bogdan, meanwhile, overcame Liechtenstein’s Lea Beck in the women’s final, posting a time of 29.70.

The bronze medal was claimed by Czech Republic’s Aneta Louzecka at the expense of Switzerland’s Vivien Labarile.

The under-22 lead events were dominated by Switzerland with Yannick Glatthard triumphing in the men’s and Sina Goetz coming out on top in the women’s.

Glatthard was followed in the standings by France’s Louna Ladevant and then Prazdnikov.

Labarile finished runner-up to Goetz with Russia’s Kseniia Ivanova third.

Russia won three of the four under-19 competitions thanks to the performances of Ivan Loshchenko in the men’s lead, Nikita Glazyrin in the men’s speed and Irina Dubovtseva in the women’s speed.

The only non-Russian under-19 victor was Ukraine’s Victoria Holub in women’s lead.

At under-16 level, Russia’s Daria Glotova had success in the women’s speed and lead events.

The men’s speed title went the way of another Russian, Danila Naumov, while the men’s lead crown was won by the US’s Keenan Griscom.

The event was organised by the Climbing Club of Oulu.
