Francesco Friedrich of Germany will aim to continue his remarkable winning streak when he goes in search of a record-equalling fifth consecutive two-man title at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Championships in Whistler.

The Olympic two and four-man champion arrives in the Canadian city having become the first to complete a perfect World Cup season in the former event.

Friedrich, who has not lost a two-man competition for over a year, will aim to match the amount of consecutive World Championships gold medals won by Eugenio Monti.

Monti triumphed in the two-man event at five straight World Championships between 1957 and 1961 and victory for Friedrich will see him move level with the Italian, who claimed seven titles in the discipline during his stellar career.

Friedrich is the red-hot favourite to retain his two-man crown, with Justin Kripps of Canada, who shared gold with the German at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, expected to be among his main challengers.

A clean sweep for Germany is possible as Mariama Jamanka is tipped for glory in the two-woman event.

Jamanka, the reigning Olympic, European and World Cup champion, will aim to secure a title which has previously eluded her.

Elana Meyers Taylor of the United States, who won World Championships gold in 2015 and 2017, will bid to ensure that record continues.

The men's two-man bobsleigh event gets the World Championships at the Whistler Sliding Centre underway tomorrow.

The two-woman competition is then scheduled for Saturday (March 2), before the team skeleton and bobsleigh events are held on Sunday (March 3).

A short break follows before the skeleton events for men and women take place on Thursday (March 7).

The four-man event, where Friedrich will also be among the contenders for gold, brings the World Championships to a close on Friday (March 8).
