The 2019 International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) World Cup season began today in Cairo in Egypt with 67 athletes looking to qualify for the women's individual final.
Competing at the Platinum Club, among those to make it through were the last three world champions - Anastasiya Prokopenko from Belarus, Gulnaz Gubaydullina from Russia and Hungary’s Sarotta Kovacs.
Prokopenko finished the day’s action in joint seventh with 1,011 points, while Gubaydullina was joint fourth with 1,012.
Kovacs meanwhile finished further down the list with 989 points.
The top performing athlete of the day was Japan’s Natsumi Tomonaga who scored 1,025.
Tomorrow men’s qualifying will go ahead, with the finals set to take place from March 1 to 3.
