The pools and match schedules have been announced by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) for this year's FIH Series Finals events, which will involve men playing in Kuala Lumpur and women in Dublin.

The events will involve some of the best emerging teams in the world and offer a route to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The top two teams from each of the FIH Series Finals will secure a place in the qualification events for the Games in Japan's capital, that will be held in October and November 2019.

In the men's tournament, which will take place from April 26 to May 4, hosts Malaysia will be in Pool B with China, Brazil and Italy.

Pool A will comprise of Canada, Austria and Wales, with the remaining place, left vacant following the withdrawal of Vanuatu, due to be filled by the FIH.

The women's tournament will be played from June 8 to 16 and will feature the Irish hosts in Pool A along with the Czech Republic, Malaysia and Singapore.

South Korea, Scotland, Ukraine and France make up the teams in Pool B.

The pools and match schedules for the other FIH Series Finals will be confirmed shortly.

If Japan, Scotland or Wales finish in the top two of their respective pools, they will not secure a place in the Olympic Games qualifiers.

Japan has already qualified as both host and winner of the Asian Games.

With regard to Scotland and Wales, England is the nominated country for Great Britain's qualification pathway.

If any of these three teams do finish in the top two, the team that finishes third does not automatically qualify for the Olympic Games qualifiers.

Any such additional place will be determined by the FIH world rankings after completion of the Continental Championships on September 8 next year.

Places at the FIH Series Finals have been determined following various Hockey Series events across the world.
