Almost 200 athletes from 25 countries have descended on Samsun in Turkey this week for the European Indoor Archery Championships which start tomorrow.

The event, which will run until March 2 at the Samsun Archery Hall, is considered the first of the European archery season.

It will start with qualifying action tomorrow, before the event continues with both individual and team elimination matches on Thursday (February 28).

Team finals will take place on Friday (March 1), before the Championships comes to an end with individual medal matches on Saturday (March 2).

Perhaps the favourite for the men's recurve title will be Dan Olaru from Moldova, who won silver in 2017.

In the women's recurve the only medallist from 2017 on the entry list this year is Angeline Cohendet from France.

She won bronze two years ago.

In the compound events The Netherlands' Mike Schloesser will go for gold on the men's side, and he will fancy his chances as the 2017 champion Jacopo Polidori from Italy is not on the entry list.

Russia's Alexandra Savenkova is back to defend her women's title, however.

Tomorrow's qualification matches will begin at 8.30am local time.
