The Netherlands’ Jeroen Kampschreur has been named the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Allianz Athlete of the Month for January after winning five gold medals at the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships.

The 19-year-old, also a Paralympic champion in the super combined event, won gold medals in all five sitting races in Sella Nevea and Kranjska Gora, triumphing in the downhill, super-G, giant slalom and slalom and the super combined.

His performance saw him win the IPC’s monthly award with 49 per cent of the vote.

Argentina’s wheelchair tennis player Gustavo Fernandez came second with 32 per cent after winning the Australian Open wheelchair singles title.

Also nominated were Nordic skier Daniel Cnossen, winner of all six men’s sitting events at the World Para Nordic Skiing World Cup in Östersund, Italian archer Alberto Simoneli and Kampschreur’s fellow Alpine skier Marie Bochet.

Simoneli was nominated after beating his own compound world record at the able-bodied Indoor Archery World Series event in Nimes in France.

Bochet, meanwhile, was put forward after also winning five gold medalsat the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships.
