Ethiopia’s Samuel Tefera will hope to back up his men’s 1500 metres indoor world record when he competes at the final event of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Indoor Tour season in Düsseldorf.

Tefera produced a stunning run in Birmingham three days ago to break the 22-year-old record set by Morocco’s Hicham El Guerrouj’s when he crossed the line in 3min 31.18sec.

He will now aim to win the World Indoor Tour title for the distance, with nine of the season’s 11 honours set to be decided in the Arena-Sportpark in the German city.

Tefera will have to finish clear of Kenya’s Bethwell Birgen to win the title as he currently lies one point adrift in the overall standings.

A prize of $20,000 (£15,000/€17,500) and a wildcard entry for the IAAF World Indoor Championships at Nanjing next year are up for grabs for the winners of disciplines in the series.

Three-time world indoor 400m champion Pavel Maslák of the Czech Republic will hope to secure the World Indoor Tour title for the second time in his career.

He must triumph in Düsseldorf to stand any chance of success, with the United States’ Nathan Strother currently leading the standings.

In the field events, there is a close battle in the women’s pole vault with Russia's Anzhelika Sidorova and Greece’s Katerina Stefanidi level.

Sidorova, competing as an Authorised Neutral Athlete, holds a head-to-head advantage which means Stefanidi must beat her rival outright.

Canada’s Alysha Newman also has a chance of winning the title.

Venezuela's world indoor champion Yulimar Rojas appears poised to win the women’s triple jump crown as a fourth place finish would be enough to triumph.

Poland’s Ewa Swoboda has already earned the women’s 60m title but will hope to finish the series with a flourish.

She will expect to face competition from The Netherlands’ Dafne Schippers.

China's Su Bingtian will aim to secure the men’s 60m crown following on from his victory in Birmingham.
