Hosts Australia had won all three of their matches on the opening day at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Anthony Joe and Jennifer Tam had earned comfortable wins in their men’s and women’s singles events respectively.

Their mixed pairing of Simon Wing Hang Leung and Gronya Somerville have also impressed, along with the men’s doubles duo Eric Vuong and Mitchell Wheller, and their women’s pairing of Setyana Mapasa and Ann-Louise Slee

They extended their winning start by recording 5-0 wins over Tahiti and Fiji, the third and fourth seeds respectively.

The results set up a showdown with New Zealand tomorrow to determine the winners of the open event.

The second seeds boast an identical record to Australia, following 5-0 wins over Samoa, Tahiti and Fiji in their three matches today.

As well as playing for the Oceania title, the two nations will also aim to secure the Whyte Trophy, a prize exclusively played for by Australia and New Zealand.

Fiji, New Caledonia and Guam were all able to celebrate wins on the second day of the mixed team event.

Fiji emerged as 3-2 winners over Guam in their first match of the day, while New Caledonia earned a 3-2 win over Tahiti.

Guam ended their day in impressive fashion as they recorded a 4-1 win over Samoa.

Australia and New Zealand have also proved the dominant nations in the junior event, with their teams topping their respective groups after three straight victories.

Top seeds New Zealand then earned a 5-0 semi-final win over New Caledonia, while Australia beat third seeds Tahiti by the same score.

While New Zealand and Australia are scheduled to meet in the final tomorrow, New Caledonia and Tahiti will clash in the bronze medal match.
