The team skipped by Hamish Gallacher triumphed 6-2 at the Peki Sports and Business Centre in Pale, East Sarajevo.

They had earlier claimed an 8-2 semi-final win over Poland, who went onto lose 10-3 to Hungary in the bronze medal game.

Switzerland overcame Hungary 8-3 in the other last-four encounter.

Medals were won in a further four sports today, including short track speed skating.

Hungary’s Attila Talabos and Slovakia’s Petra Rusnáková came out on top in the respective boys' and girls' 1,000 metres events,

Talabos crossed the line in a time of 1min 36.676sec with Russia’s Vladimir Balbekov second in 1:37.073 and fellow Hungarian Balázs Bontovics third in 1:37.436.

In the girls' A final, Rusnakova prevailed in 1:38.566 with Italy’s Chiara Betti claiming the silver medal in 1:39.662 and Belarus' Yana Dambrouskaya taking the bronze in 2:10.698.

Talabos also contributed to Hungary’s success in the mixed 3,000m relay.

A time of 4:18.084 was enough to edge Poland by 0.084 seconds.

The Netherlands were the bronze medallists in 4:23.290.

Norway tasted victory in the mixed biathlon and cross-country skiing relays.

The biathlon event, made up of two six kilometres legs for girls and two 7.5km legs for boys, was won in 1:26:58.5 ahead of France and Finland.

In the 4x5km cross-country skiing race, Norway held off Russia and Switzerland to win in 1:02:01.4.

Alpine skiing’s mixed parallel team event saw Norway finish third behind winners France and runners-up Austria.

The Closing Ceremony of the 2019 Winter EYOF was held this evening, bringing down the curtain down on the 14th edition of the multi-sports event.

It was held outside City Hall in East Sarajevo and marked the end of five days of competition.

Norway topped the overall medal table with six golds, one silver and five bronzes, and were followed in the standings by Switzerland with five golds, five silvers and two bronzes, and France with four golds, three silvers and four bronzes. 

In total, 911 athletes from 46 European National Olympic Committees took part in the event, with 21 countries taking home medals.

Mayor of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka and Mayor of East Sarajevo Nenad Vuković presented the EOC flag to Mika Kilpelainen, Mayor of Finnish village Vuokatti, hosts of the next Winter EYOF in 2021. 

It was followed by the extinguishing of the Flame of Peace and a fireworks display.

The next summer edition of the EYOF is due to be held in Azerbaijan's capital Baku later this year from July 21 to 27.
