Norwegian team Olympic champions Andreas Stjernen and Daniel-André Tande have been ruled out of this weekend's International Ski Federation Ski Jumping World Cup in Germany after both suffered falls at the last event in Lahti.

Head coach Alexander Stoeckl confirmed neither would compete in Wellingen but insisted their injuries were not serious.

Their absence from the event has also fueled speculation they could miss the upcoming World Championships in Seefeld.

Both were part of the Norwegian squad which won the team title at last year's Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang and their unavailability would be a huge blow for the nation.

The Norwegian team for the World Championships, scheduled to run from February 20 to March 3, is due to be announced on Monday (February 18).

"Neither Stjernen nor Tande are seriously injured, but both need a bit more time now to train," said Stoeckl.

"That's why we decided that they will compete in Willingen.

"The most important thing now is to take it slow and let them rest a bit."

Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi is the current overall men's World Cup leader on 1,460 points, 431 ahead of nearest challenger Kamil Stoch of Poland.

Germany is also hosting another World Cup this weekend as the women will participate in Oberstdorf.

Norway's Olympic champion Maren Lundby will be aiming to resume her winning streak, broken by Sara Takanashi of Japan in Ljubno, in the German resort as she bids to strengthen her overall lead.

Both competitions begin tomorrow and conclude on Sunday (February 17).
