More than 200 events have been organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) to help celebrate the country’s National Sports Day.

The celebration, held every February, aims to promote awareness of the importance of exercise for a healthy lifestyle.

Among the main events was at the Isa Sports City in Riffa, with all of the country’s institutions taking part.

Sports that featured included American football, basketball, table tennis, taekwondo and cycling.

The event has been held for the last three years and organised by the BOC in cooperation with Government authorities and the private sector.

Last month the BOC unveiled a playground initiative providing more sports facilities for young people.

The "Al Firjan playgrounds" scheme forms part of a wider BOC objective to provide sports facilities to different age groups across Bahrain.

In a statement on the National Sports Day celebrations the BOC said the event had “transformed” the country into a playground.
