Germany, the last team to make their debut at the new competition, lost both matches to the host nation at the Tasmania Hockey Centre.

Australia's women were made to work harder for their win as they edged Germany in a shoot-out after the match had finished 2-2 at the end of normal time.

The visitors made a bright start to their first Pro League match as Florian Fuch's goal gave them the lead in their men's clash with the team which is ranked second in the world.

A quick-fire double from Jacob Anderson turned the game in Australia's favour before Lukas Windfeder restored parity for Germany to leave the match level at half-time.

The second-half belonged to the Australians as Tom Wickham and Dylan Wotherspoon scored unanswered goals to seal a battling win for the home side.

"We had a little bit of a disappointing start last weekend, turned it around this weekend with a good performance against Germany so hopefully we can keep building from this," said Anderson.

Australia's women, who beat China 4-3 yesterday, went ahead early on as Sophie Taylor scored her first international goal.

Hanna Granitzki deservedly equalised for Germany in the second quarter to ensure the match was all-square at the break.

Grace Stewart gave Australia the ideal start after half-time as she restored the hosts' lead but Granitzki pegged them back again as she scored her second of the match.

Neither team could find a winner and the game went to a shoot-out and Australia held their nerve.

Goalkeeper Rachael Lynch was beaten only once, while Edwina Bone, Brooke Peris and Mariah Williams all successfully converted for Australia to give them a second win in as many days.
