The Norwegian team were out to continue their recent dominance of the circuit and Klæbo and Falla did not disappoint on a technical course in the Finnish resort.

The result saw the formidable duo earn another double victory for their country after they won the classic sprints in Otepää in Estonia last month.

Klæbo, winner of three Olympic gold medals at Pyeongchang 2018, broke clear of arch Italian rival Federico Pellegrino in the men's final to strengthen his lead at the top of the overall standings.

Finn Hågen Krogh, also of Norway, did enough for third.

Klæbo now has a total of 1,134 points after being awarded 100 points for his victory today.

Alexander Bolshunov of Russia remains his closest challenger but is 88 points adrift.

In the women's event, Falla held off the challenge of American Sophie Caldwell to secure another win on this year's World Cup circuit.

Falla, winner of two medals at Pyeongchang 2018, proved too strong for Caldwell in a fast-paced final.

Sweden's Maja Dahlqvist won the bronze medal.

Norway's Ingvild Flugstad Østberg remains the overall leader, despite finishing only 18th today, and currently has a total of 1,237 points.

The World Cup event, being held as part of the Lahti Ski Games, is due to conclude tomorrow with the team sprint races for men and women.
