The Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) has launched a mobile phone app called "ABC of Olympism".

Available for free, the app is aimed at young Latvians and promises to provide them with "in pocket" information about the Olympic Movement.

This will include details on Olympians and Olympic Games history, as well as legacy.

Quizzes and contests have also been included with prizes for the best players.

According to the LOK, the app is thought of as a "present" for young people in the country.

It comes after Latvia celebrated 100 years since declaring independence in November of last year.

The LOK also believe that the app could be replicated by other National Olympic Committees in any language.

"Olympism ABC informs and teaches society, especially youth, about the Olympic Movement and its history in Latvian," a PowerPoint presentation about the app says.

"The main task [is the] popularisation of Olympic values and sport within youth and all society of Latvia."

The app can be downloaded from platforms including Apple and Google.

It has been part-funded by the European Olympic Committees and the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Solidarity programme.
