Maria Tolokonina failed to maintain her winning streak in women’s lead events as the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation World Cup in Saas-Fee concluded.

The Russian climber had won the opening two competitions in South Korea and China to assume the World Cup lead.

Tolokonina continued to show her superiority over the field by topping the semi-final standings at the Ice Dome, achieving a score of 18.320.

She progressed to the eight climber final as the clear favourite to secure gold, with her rivals having finished well down on her semi-final effort.

An error in the early stages of the final, though, saw the Russian fall off the wall, leaving her last of the finalists.

That allowed Woonseon Shin to celebrate victory, having set the standard in the final.

The South Korean topped the wall early on and finished the competition top of the standings.

Home favourite Sina Goetz also topped the wall, but the Swiss settled for second having achieved a slower time.

The bronze medal was earned by South Korea's Song Han Na Rai after she scored 17.260.
