With another contest set to take place tomorrow the 25-year-old put in a flawless performance to jump 132 metres and 137m and win with 270.1 points.

He finished ahead of Poland’s Kamil Stoch, second with 260.3 points, despite recently suffering with the flu, and Norway’s Robert Johansson, who came third with 256.7.

Stoch, winner of the overall World Cup title twice before, claimed second with a hill record jump of 148.5m in the final round.

The previous record stood at 144m held by today’s winner Kraft.

"I didn’t even know if I would land at all," Stoch said.

"Honestly I have no idea where the energy came from today.

"I feel much better than yesterday but I still feel weak, that’s normal when you are sick.

"I just wanted to jump with no pressure and it worked."

Kraft’s victory is his 14th on the World Cup circuit.

The current World Cup leader, Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi, who earlier in the season appeared unbeatable, finished fifth with a score of 250.5 points.

Having won nine events in total this season, including six in a row at one stage, Kobayashi has now failed to make the podium in the last three competitions.

At the women’s FIS Ski Jumping World Cup event in Rasnov in Romania, Norway’s Maren Lundby gained her second successive victory with a score of 247.8 points.

With no qualifying held yesterday due to the small field, the Olympic champion beat Germany’s Katharina Althaus, who finished second and Japan’s Sara Takanashi, who came third with 236.9 and 236.8 points respectively.

The result means Althaus, the Olympic silver medallist at Pyeongchang 2018, remains top of the overall standings on 702 points, though Lundby’s win has helped close the gap.

She now sits on 688 points.

Another contest at both the men’s and women’s World Cup events is due to take place tomorrow.
