Great Britain’s Jasmin Taylor came out on top in the women’s sprint event on day one of the International Ski Federation Telemark World Cup in Pralognan-la-Vanoise in France.

The 25-year-old clocked a total time of 2min 26.35sec to beat nearest challenger Amélie Reymond of Switzerland by 0.79 seconds.

It secured Taylor the fifth victory of her career and first since March 2018, when she won a parallel sprint event in Mürren in Switzerland.

"It was a really good race," she was reported as saying by BBC Sport.

"It was quite stressful to be the last down on the second run but I tried to stay focused and it was enough."

Reymond’s compatriot Beatrice Zimmerman completed the top three, finishing 2.56 seconds behind.

In the men’s sprint event, home favourite Philippe Lau won with a time of 2:12.37.

Switzerland’s Bastien Dayer finished second in 2:12.59, while Slovenia’s Jure Ales came third in 2:13.71.

Norway’s Trym Nygaard Loeken, winner of both the sprint and classic competitions in La Thuile in Italy earlier this week, had to settle for a fifth-place finish behind Switzerland’s Stefan Matter.

Loeken and Reymond remain top of the men’s and women’s overall World Cup standings respectively.

The former has 245 points to his name, while the latter has 260 putting her 30 clear of Taylor.

The men’s and women’s classic races are due to take place tomorrow.
