Scotland's Julie Forrest clinched her first women's singles title at the World Indoor Bowls Championships after beating Guernsey's Alison Merrien in the final in Norfolk today.

The 50-year-old won by a scoreline of 8-7, 9-8 at Potters Resort.

"I am actually still shaking," Forrest told BBC Sport

"I thought my legs were going to collapse.

"I'm ecstatic."

Defeat for Merrien denied her a second world title following her triumph in 2011.

Today's action also saw the last three men's singles quarter-finalists confirmed.

Scotland's Darren Burnett was the first player to progress thanks to an 11-4, 7-7 win over England's Mervyn King.

He will now go onto face England's Simon Skelton, who overcame Wales' Jason Greenslade yesterday, for a place in the last four.

Also reaching the quarter-finals were England's Nick Brett, the 2016 champion, and fellow countryman Greg Harlow, the 2010 winner.

Brett beat six-time champion Alex Marshall of Scotland 12-0, 4-9, 2-1, while Harlow defeated three-time winner Andy Thomson of England 10-1, 10-5.

All four quarter-finals, including Brett's meeting with Harlow, are scheduled to take place tomorrow.
