France's Jules Chappaz eased to victory in the men's 10 kilometres freestyle event on day three of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Lahti in Finland.

The 19-year-old clocked a time of 22min 34.9sec to beat closest rival Alexander Terentev of Russia by a margin of 21 seconds.

Third place went to Norway's Iver Tildheim Andersen, who crossed the line 27.2 seconds after Chappaz.

In the women's 5km freestyle event, Sweden's Frida Karlsson came out on top in 12:50.6.

Norway's Helene Marie Fossesholm finished second in 13:01.7, while home favourite Anita Korva came third in 13:10.4.

Action in Lahti is due to continue tomorrow.

Taking centre stage will be the men's 15km and women's 10km freestyle competitions in the under-23 category.  

The FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships are scheduled to conclude on Saturday (January 26).
