Egyptian world number ones Raneem El Welily and Mohamed Elshorbagy progressed to the next round of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Tournament of Champions as seeded players dominated day four in New York City.

There was not a single surprise result today at the event taking place inside New York's Grand Central Terminal as all 12 matches were won by the higher ranked player.

Thirty-year-old El Welily, who is appearing in her first PSA Tour event since replacing compatriot Nour El Sherbini at the top of the women’s rankings, saw off world number 23 Mariam Metwally 11-4, 11-5, 11-6 in round two.

“When I got to number one, I was just trying to enjoy myself on court and to do my best in every single game,” El Welily said.

“To stay in the same form, I have to do the same things that got me to number one, so I am still trying to enjoy it as much as possible.

“It is definitely good to be back in New York at Grand Central Station.

“It is one of my favourite tournaments all year, and I am just happy to be through to the next round."

She will face India’s Joshna Chinappa next, who advanced with a straight games win over Belgium’s Tinne Gilis.

Elsewhere in the women’s draw, 2017 champion Camille Serme from France began her campaign with an 11-7, 12-10, 11-6 victory over Dutchwoman Milou van der Heijden.

The world number five, who is the only Frenchwoman to have ever won the tournament, will next face England’s Victoria Lust after she beat Hong Kong’s Liu Tsz-Ling 16-14, 11-8, 11-8.

On the men’s side both the world number one Elsorbagy and the defending champion Simon Rösner form Germany advanced into the quarter-finals, with wins over Egypt’s Zahed Salem and Max Lee of Hong Kong respectively.

Elsorbagy took his match 11-2, 12-10, 11-9 while Rösner advanced with an 11-9, 11-8, 11-7 victory over his opponent.
