Wang Manyu and Zhu Yuling were crowned women’s doubles champions at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Hungarian Open today.

The duo faced the challenge of Chen Meng and Sun Yingsha in the gold medal match at the Budapest Olympic Hall.

Having lost the opening game, Wang and Zhu stormed back to emerge as 8-11, 11-7, 15-13, 11-2 winners.

China were assured of success in the women’s singles competition with four of their players having progressed to the semi-finals yesterday.

Top seed Zhu Yuling overcame compatriot Liu Shiwen in the first of the semi-final matches.

The clash between Zhu and Liu proved to be a closely fought affair, with little separating the duo.

Liu appeared to be on course for the final after winning three of the opening four games of the match.

She was stunned by a fightback from Zhu, with the top seed ultimately securing a 5-11, 11-9, 8-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 12-10 victory.

Zhu will now face Chen Meng in the final.

A strong performance saw Chen secure an 11-9, 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5 victory over Wang Manyu.

China are also assured of further success in the men’s competition as players from the nation dominated the quarter-finals.

Defending champion Fan Zhendong won 11-8, 11-3, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8 against Russia’s Alexander Shibaev.

He will now go up against compatriot Wang Chuqin, who upset sixth seed Hugo Calderano of Brazil 5-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-4, 12-14, 11-55.

Lin Gaoyaun then beat Belarusian Vladimir Samsonov 10-12, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-9 to reach the semi-finals.

An all-Chinese semi-final line-up was completed by Xu Win, who cruised past South Korea’s Lim Jonghoon 13-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8.
