Belgium’s Toon Aerts will be looking to extend his lead at the top of the men's standings when the penultimate International Cycling Union Cyclo-Cross World Cup event of the season takes place in Pontchâteau in France tomorrow.

With the season almost over the 25-year-old is top of the elite men’s rankings on 475 points, just ahead of his compatriot Wout Van Aert who also races in France tomorrow.

Both of them will be desperate to secure the win tomorrow to set themselves up for the overall World Cup title and they will each fancy their chances as their nearest rival Mathieu van der Poel from The Netherlands will not take part.

The Dutchman has dominated this season when he has raced, winning his fifth consecutive World Cup last time out in Heusden-Zolder.

He only sits third in the rankings having not taken part in either the first or second races of the season.

In the women’s event, Dutch star Marianne Vos will look to gain her second successive win.

The 31-year-old was victorious in Heusden-Zolder by just one second ahead of compatriot Lucinda Brand.

That win helped Vos extend her lead at the top of the women’s standings on 414 points, 56 ahead of Belgium’s Sanne Cant.

Cant can still claim the overall women’s title with two races to go, although she will be relying on Vos putting in relatively poor performances in the last two events.

So far the Dutchwoman has only finished below second place once, when she came 12th in Koksijde.
