The International Federation for Athletes with Intellectual Impairments (INAS) has called for athletes and coaches to help in a research study.

A project called Intellectual Disability and Equal Opportunities for Active and Long-term participation in sport (IDEAL) is currently taking place.

The programme has received Erasmus funding and is asserted to have brought together organisations from across Europe.

It has been aimed at addressing known inequalities in access to sport for youngsters with intellectual impairments.

By addressing the inequalities, it is hoped more people will be able to become active and fulfil their potential.

The researchers have called for athletes with intellectual impairments and their coaches to take part in the project.

They are seeking athletes and coaches with experience of giving or receiving coaching.

The participants would be required for interviews, lasting between 20 to 30 minutes, which would cover their background and experiences.

They would need to have a good understanding of English and be over the age of 18.

Athletes must also have an intellectual impairment or autism and must have competed in a sport for at least six months with the help of a coach.

For coaches, they must have had a minimum of one year's experience working with athletes with intellectual impairments.

INAS have called for interested parties to contact the research team here.
