A series of Para sports events will be available to stream live in Canada this winter after the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) agreed a deal to launch the "Paralympic Super Series".
The deal will see a "package" of Paralympic sport made available to live stream via the CBC Gem app and website, as well as the CPC Facebook page.
Select events will also be available on the Radio-Canada Sports app and the sports page of their website.
Events in question include the Para Alpine Skiing World Cup in Zagreb on January 16 and 17, the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships from January 21 to February 1 and the World Para Nordic Skiing Championships, which is taking place in Canada, from February 16 to 24.
"We are so excited to be bringing more live coverage of Paralympic sport to Canadians and continuing our great work with CBC/Radio-Canada and our media consortium partners in promoting the stories of our incredible athletes," CPC executive director Martin Richard said.
"Our audience reach has significantly grown thanks to the efforts of our media consortium partners and it’s now a great opportunity to bring more content to our fans."
CPC promise the Super Series will offer "more than 50 hours" of Paralympic sport coverage throughout the year – the most Canadian coverage ever offered outside of the Paralympic Games.
It also marks the first time CBC has offered Para Alpine and Para Nordic skiing coverage outside of the Paralympic Games.
"Our athletes are competing year-round at important events like world championships and we want to bring those competitions to Canadians," Richard added.
"Having these events accessible to watch in between Paralympic Games is a huge priority for us and will help build more interest as we follow the journeys of our Paralympic athletes."
The executive director of CBC Sports Greg Stremlaw claimed they are "proud" to offer more coverage.
"CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to sharing and supporting the stories of diverse Canadians, and our ongoing collaboration with the Canadian Paralympic Committee continues to allow us to shine a spotlight on these incredible athletes who represent the country on the world stage," he said.
In total four Para Alpine World Cup events are already included in the Series, as well as both the Para Alpine and Para Nordic World Championships, while the CPC say more events will be added to the Series "as the year goes on".
