Austria's Claudia Riegler clinched International Ski Federation Snowboard World Cup parallel slalom victory at the age of 45 in front of a home crowd in Bad Gastein.

Riegler won her maiden overall World Cup title last year when taking victory in a team competition.

The experienced snowboarder showed her ability again today in Bad Gastein as she topped the morning's qualification for the women’s event.

She saw of the challenge of Ladina Jenny in the quarter-finals, before securing a semi-final win over another Swiss opponent in Patrizia Kummer.

The result set up a final against Poland's Aleksandra Krol.

Riegler would return to the top of the World Cup podium by finishing 0.63 seconds fastest than her rival.

It made her the oldest winner of the World Cup event.

Riegler and Krol were joined on the podium by Sabine Schoeffmann, as the Austrian beat Kummer in the small final.

The women's competition did not feature World Cup leader Ester Ledecká, who made sporting history at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games by winning gold medals in both snowboard and Alpine skiing.

The Czech athlete has reportedly opted to focus on skiing over the coming weeks.

Germany's Stefan Baumeister celebrated victory in the men's competition in Austria.

He earned a place in the gold medal ride off by earning wins over Italy's Maurizio Bormolini and Austria's Lukas Mathies in the quarter and semi-final stages of the event respectively.

Baumeister then finished 0.40 seconds faster than Switzerland's Dario Caviezel in the final.

World Cup leader Benjamin Karl settled for third place, after winning an all-Austrian small final by 0.55 seconds from Mathies.
