Defending champion Glen Durrant booked his place in the second round of the men's British Darts Organisation World Championship today.

The English player, who is aiming to secure a third straight title at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green in England, overcame Mark McGrath of New Zealand.

He overcame the qualifier by a 3-0 score.

Durrant will face the challenge of fellow Englishman Scott Baker in the second round of the tournament.

Baker secured a 3-0 win over Scotland’s Ross Montgomery in his first round match.

England's former winner Scott Mitchell beat Serbian qualifier Oliver Ferenc by the same score to earn a second round spot.

He will face Poland’s Krzysztof Kciuk, who overcame England’s Dave Parletti 3-1.

The Netherlands’ Aileen de Graaf progressed to the quarter-final stage of the women’s tournament.

She secured a 2-0 victory over England’s Paula Jenkins.

De Graaf will now face the challenge of Russia's Anastasia Dobromyslova in the quarter-final stage of the event.
