Germany’s Michael Unterbuchner progressed to the second round of the men’s British Darts Organisation World Championship today.

The tournament fifth seed faced the challenge of Australia’s Justin Thompson in the first round at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green in England.

A close match eventually saw Unterbuchner edge the contest 3-2 to take his place in the next round.

He will face Wales’ Wayne Warren.

The Netherlands’ Willem Mandigers overcame England’s Paul Hogan 3-0 in his first round match.

Mandigers will meet his compatriot Wesley Harms, with the duo set to battle for a place in the quarter-finals.

Canada’s David Cameron and Serbia’s Oliver Ferenc came through qualifying today to earn places in the first round.
