Nicolas Peifer of France has become the number one men's wheelchair tennis doubles player for the first time in his career after the year-end rankings were updated. 

Peifer won 13 doubles titles this year, including eight with compatriot Stephane Houdet who has topped the rankings seven times in the last nine years.

Significant victories included the Australian Open and Roland Garros with Houdet, and the Austrian Open with Australia's Nico Langmann. 

Diede de Groot of The Netherlands also achieved a number one ranking for the first time, doing so in the women's category. 

She was named the International Tennis Federation world champion this year, as well as winning seven doubles titles with three different partners, including at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.

American David Wagner tops the quad doubles for the 14th time, winning 10 titles with six different partners in 2018.

This included the Melbourne Open, British Open and US Open.

Jef Vandorpe of Belgium and Shiori Funamizu of Japan end the year as the number one junior wheelchair players in the boys' and girls' rankings.
