Cassie Sharpe of Canada and Aaron Blunck of the United States topped qualification in the first women's and men's halfpipe event of the International Skiing Federation (FIS) Freestyle Skiing World Cup tour.

Copper Mountain in Colorado is currently hosting the first halfpipe event of the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup of the season and Sharpe and Blunck were the star performers in qualifying.

Sharpe scored 93.75 to beat Kelly Sildaru of Estonia, who finished second with 93.25 points. 

Brita Sigourney of the United States, bronze medalist at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, qualified in third after recording a total of 88.75 points.

In the men's competition, Blunck scored 91.75 to qualify in first. 

In second and third were the Porteous brothers of New Zealand, with Nico scoring 91.25 points and Miguel on 90.25 points. 

Two-time Olympic gold medallist and crowd favourite, David Wise, qualified in tenth with a score of 84.50.

The finals for the men and women's competitions will take place on Friday (December 7).
