The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Men’s South America Championship is set to begin in Lima tomorrow with three qualification places for next year’s Parapan American Games in the Peruvian capital up for grabs.

Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela will battle for the last available spots, with the medallists advancing.

As hosts, Peru have already secured a slot at Lima 2019 but will play for bragging rights ahead of their home Games.

Brazil finished the highest of the South American nations at their home Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, ranking fifth.

A year earlier, Argentina captured the bronze medal at the Parapan American Games in Toronto.

Mexico defeated Puerto Rico last month to secure the IWBF Central America and Caribbean Championship title in Costa Rica's capital San José.

It ensured the successful defence of their title having beaten Puerto Rico in the 2016 final.

By reaching the final, both teams qualified for Lima 2019.

Canada and the United States are the other countries already through.

Competition in Lima is due to take place until December 8.
