Elisa Di Francisca of Italy won the International Fencing Federation's Women's Foil World Cup in the Algerian capital Algiers.

The London 2012 Olympic gold medalist beat Japan's Sera Azuma 15-11 in the final at the Salle Omnisports Harcha Hacene.

With this, she secured the eighth World Cup victory of her career.

Di Francisca defeated compatriot Martina Batini 15-6 to reach the final after winning the quarter-final against Russia's Larisa Korobeynikova 15-10.

The Rio 2016 Olympic champion, Inna Deriglazova, exited in the semi-final following a 15-12 defeat to Azuma.

Azuma had beaten Deriglazova's compatriot, Anastasia Ivanova, 11-7 in the quarter-final.

The next Women's Foil World Cup event is due to take place in the Polish city of Katowice from January 11 to 12.
