With both teams already qualified, the fixture in Guyana determined who would finish top of the group with four wins from four. 

"I think it [the win] is important, not just because it's Australia, but for ourselves and our team, because we've got the momentum," said Indian team member Jemimah Rodrigues.

"So we need to keep that momentum, keep doing the right things, and not focus mainly on the results."

India posted 167-8, with Smriti Mandhana blasting 83, and then restricted Australia to 119-9.

Ireland and New Zealand played out the remaining Group B game with the Kiwis emerging victorious by eight wickets. 

Irish veterans Clare Shillington and Ciara Metcalfe, who had announced their retirements prior to the tournament, were given a guard of honour before and after the game.

This was followed by twin sisters Isobel and Celia Joyce also retiring once the game was over. 

The Irish were restricted to 79-9 and New Zealand chased down the target in 7.3 overs.

The West Indies will play England to determine who will finish first in Group A and play Australia in the semi-final tomorrow.

South Africa meet Bangladesh in the remaining Group A fixture before the semi-finals begin on November 22.
