Overall champion Ben Maher finished the regular Longines Global Champions Tour season in style by winning the season-ending Grand Prix in Doha.

The British rider knew he could not be caught at the summit of the leaderboard when he won the last leg of the circuit in Rome in September.

He was victorious again today at the Al Shaqab Equestrian Complex in the Qatari capital, winning a nine-rider jump-off on board Explosion W.

It proved to be a double celebration for Maher as his London Knights squad also wrapped up the team Global Champions League title.

The 35-year-old London 2012 Olympic team jumping champion clocked 70.40sec in the jump-off as five went double clear.

Peder Fredricson of Sweden timed in at 73.17 with Hansson WL as Harrie Smolders of The Netherlands stopped the watches at 74.68 with Don VHP Z N.O.P.

Maher has won the overall title with 295 points, with Smolders second on 252 and Belgium's Nicola Philippaerts, another member of the London Knights, third on 238.

The Global Champions Tour season will now end with a "Super Grand Prix" in Czech capital Prague on December 16.
