France celebrated double gold in the mountain bike eliminator events as the International Cycling Union (UCI) Urban Cycling World Championships continued in Chengdu.

Titouan Perrin-Ganier was the defending champion in the men's competition and secured a place in the final today in the Chinese city.

The French rider proved able to defend the title he earned at the venue last year, as he crossed the line in first place.

He held off the challenge of compatriot Hugo Briatta, who was forced to settle for second place.

An all-French podium was rounded off by Lorenzo Serres, as he ended the competition in third.

French success continued in the women's event, as Coline Clauzure clinched the gold medal.

She saw off competition from Iryna Popova in the final, with the Ukrainian ending in second place.

The bronze was secured by Germany's Marion Fromberger.

Men's elite trials competition also began today, with Austria's Thomas Pechhacker qualifying for the 20 inch final in first place.

He achieved a score of 700 points, allowing him to finish 40 clear of his nearest challenger Dominik Oswald of Germany.

Defending champion Jack Carthy of Britain ended on the same number of points as France's Nicolas Vallée in the 26 inch event.

The pair both finished on 710 as they progressed to the final.

All trials finals will take place tomorrow.

Semi-finals of the BMX freestyle events will take place on the same day, prior to the finals on Sunday (November 11) as the World Championships draw to a close.

The second edition of the UCI event brings together trials, mountain bike eliminator and BMX freestyle disciplines.
