altOctober 7 – Tests conducted on water quality in the practice pool at the Commonwealth Games have shown there is no problem with its quality.

A number of teams, including England, asked for "reassurances" about the aquatics venue after some swimmers, such as England’s Rebecca Adlington (pictured), suffered stomach upsets.

Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President Mike Fennell admitted at a press conference that the problems were a great concern and said they would be investigated with "with the greatest of urgency".

However, an England swimming official told insidethegames the Organisers’ Committee has conducted tests which show the water quality in the practice pool is perfect.

The official said: "Reports in the media about of some of the swimmers getting ill have been blown completely out of proportion.

"Yes, there were a few who came down with a few tummy bugs and we released a statement on that.

"But some of the figures we stated have been doubled or even tripled by the media and there has been far to much made about our slight concerns over the water quality.

"We have received assurances from the Organising Committee that everything is fine, which is what we though likely to be the outcome of the investigation anyway, and hopefully that will be the end of it."
