New Zealand's Jo Edwards and Shannon McIlroy were crowned winners of the World Bowls Champion of Champions event in Australia.

Edwards, who had celebrated gold at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year in Australia, won the women's competition.

The New Zealand player faced the challenge of Malaysia's Alyani Jamil in the women's final at the St Johns Park Bowling Club in New South Wales.

She was able to secure a 10-7, 10-3 victory in the contest to become the first player to win the event on two occasions.

Her maiden victory at the tournament came back in 2011 when she triumphed in Hong Kong.

Edwards now boasts 12 majors, making her the most successful competitor in bowls history.

McIlroy ensured double success for New Zealand as the reigning World Bowls singles champion prevailed in the men's event.

He faced Hong Kong's Tony Cheung, the Asian Championships silver medallist, in the final.

McIlroy would secure an 8-3, 9-2 victory to secure the title.
