The 22-year-old earned a total of 90.33 points to edge out Sogo Sakakibara of Japan, who scored 88.66 points, while Jamie Hull of Britain managed 88.33 points. 

Schuetz received the first gold medal of the event taking place at the Qing Shui He Ecological Art Park in the Chinese city.

Twelve participants qualified for the final of the skateboard pro event, with Richard Tury of Slovakia placing first in the semi-final with 86.50 points, making himself a strong contender to finish on top of the podium at the final tomorrow. 

Johnson Kechaud of the US finished second in the semi-final with 83.25 points, followed by Maxim Habenec of the Czech Republic on 80.60 points.

The semi-final of the mountain bike freestyle slopestyle competition also took place, with Timothe Bringer of France topping qualification for the final with 89.00 points.

Lukas Knopf of Germany finished second in the semi-final on 83.30 points, while Canada's Paul Genovese came third with 80.60 points.

The final for this event will take place tomorrow, with action continuing until Sunday (November 4).
