The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have opened nominations for their 2019 Scientific Award, given out biennially to honour the work of researchers in the Paralympic Movement.

The award, which recognises the work of a single academic researcher for their "contribution in the field of sports for persons with an impairment", will be presented at the 2019 VISTA Conference in Amsterdam next September.

IPC medical and scientific director Peter Van de Vilet said the work of such people "contributes immensely" to the Paralympic Movement.

"The IPC is in a privileged position to see a growing number of researchers interested in research in Para-sport," he said.

"This award not only acknowledges and rewards their work, but it will also encourage and promote further study, as well as enhance the quality of work being done in the field."

Last year the award was presented to Professor Vicky Goosey-Toffrey, who for almost 20 years has sought to apply sports science to Para-athletes training for international competition.

At the 2008 Beijing Paralympics she led a team of sports scientists and healthcare experts named "The Beijing Acclimatisation Group", to ensure the athletes were prepared.

The award was first given in 2005 and nominations for next year's award must be submitted by February 15.

The 2019 VISTA Conference will take place between September 4 and 7.
