Hong Kong's mixed doubles top seeds Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet advanced to round two on the opening day of the Badminton World Federation Macau Open.

The World Championship bronze medallists saw off Israel's mother and son team Svetlana and Misha Zilberman 21-13, 21-17 at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion Macau.

Svetlana Zilberman was playing at the age of 60 against a team which won Asian Games silver in Indonesia last month.

Mixed doubles was the only main draw action contested as the Super 300 World Tour event began.

All three of the top seeded pairs are from Hong Kong.

Second seeds Lee Chun Hei and Chau Hoi Wah also advanced as they defeated Lin Shang-kai and Cheng Yu-pei of Chinese Taipei 23-21, 21-12.

Third seeds Chang Tak Ching and Ng Wing Yung were not so lucky as they were knocked out.

They were ousted by Malaysia's Hoo Pang Ron and Cheah Yee See who came from behind to triumph 19-21, 21-18, 21-10.

Competition continues in Macau tomorrow when the main draw competition in the singles draws will start.
