Japan and Mexico will clash for the World Baseball Softball Confederation Under-23 World Cup title after both sides qualified for the final of the tournament in Colombia today.

Japan, the defending champions, beat Venezuela 6-3 at the Edgar Renteria Baseball Stadium in Barranquilla.

The Japanese side were joined in the final by Mexico, who overcame Dominican Republic 3-1.

The two sides will battle it out for the Under-23 World Cup on Sunday (October 28) following the conclusion of the super round tomorrow.

They have qualified with a game to spare following their victories today.

Japan maintained their unbeaten record at the tournament, stretching their winning streak to nine with a battling win over Venezuela.

The Japanese team had to come from behind as they trailed 3-0 early on before levelling in the third inning.

A three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth from Horiuchi Kengo turned the tie back in Japan's favour and they held on to guarantee their place in the final.

Francisco Haro was the star of the show for Mexico as he kept it tight with his pitching to prevent Dominican Republic from making any inroads.

Their 3-1 win saw them progress to the final, where they will aim to dethrone the reigning champions.
